End Date: 2009-05-24
This exciting interactive exhibition explaining the importance of protecting the world’s forests is only one of a number of activities taking place nationwide to mark this year’s Biodiversity Week. The exhibition will be on display in the Bridge Shopping Centre, Tullamore from Sunday 17th May and continues until Sunday 24th May 2009. It is a hands-on exhibition consisting of large, colourful panels highlighting what is happening to the world’s forests, why it is happening and what people can do to help and encourage better forest management and responsible timber sourcing. There are also a large number of wood samples from around the world showing the amazing diversity of wood species.
Activity sheets are available for students and anyone who wishes to test their knowledge on forest and wood, and the exhibition is of interest to both schools and the general public. There are also follow-on classroom project sheets for teachers. This is a great way for teachers and pupils alike to get the most out of their visit to the exhibition by bringing the activity sheets back to school and doing projects in school based on their visit to the Wood of Life.
The Wood of Life exhibition is the educational initiative of Offaly-based non-governmental organisation Irish Woodworkers for Africa/Just Forests and is funded by Irish Aid at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Concern the Irish development agency. This Biodiversity Week event in the Bridge Centre is funded by the Department of the Environment, Heritage & Local Government.
