The Irish Environmental Network is the registered name of the Environment Secretariat. It is a limited liability company owned by its member organisations. It operates from its registered address at 10A Lower Camden Street, Dublin 2.

- to seek funding for the work of Member Organizations and the Secretariat from Government departments and agencies, business sponsors and international organisations.
- to facilitate capacity building of Member Organizations and to assist Member Organizations in participating in consultative mechanisms, to host seminars and conferences and to provide a forum for member organisations to come together.
- to maintain a database of NGOs which are active in the fields of sustainability, environmental or ecological protection in Ireland
Since start-up in 2001 the Irish Environmental Network has helped coordinate this sector, generally acknowledged as a positive step towards greater communication and liaison between the groups and with the Government.
Member Organizations are directly involved in the sustainable use of natural resources, either by carrying out specific conservation projects to protect threatened species and habitats or through planning and campaigning for better use of our resources.
