Organising events: Teagasc and the Heritage Council will run some events and do some press and social media work. Biodiversity Officers and hopefully several other groups whom we are in touch with also run events. However, we are always looking for more to join on board! We would love for other groups to get involved in organising local events. It can be anything from a farm or land walk showcasing some nice hedgerows, their benefits etc., to a bat walk talking about how bats use hedgerows, to a talk or demonstration on how to manage hedgerows correctly.

Unfortunately, there is no funding available for running events. We can put you in touch with your local Biodiversity Officer if desired for potential support and resources, and we will promote your event on our websites and social media.

Climate Carnival 2026 is taking place at Ballintubbert Gardens & House, Co. Laois on 15–16 September.

This year’s theme is From Silos to Systems, bringing together 50+ speakers across climate, biodiversity, food, culture and the ocean, with a big focus on breaking out of sectoral bubbles and creating conversations across disciplines.

The programme includes Mary Robinson, Dr Rupa Marya, Hector Ó hEochagáin, Harrison Gardner, Dr Tara Shine, Eoin Warner and many more, alongside workshops, performances, food, music and opportunities to connect.

Co-organised by the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP), the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) and Trinity Long Room Hub, this conference is recognised as an Associated Event of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026.

The Think2030 Ireland Conference will bring together European and Irish policymakers, representatives of EU institutions, researchers, industry leaders, civil society organisations and think tanks to explore how sustainability can strengthen Europe’s resilience and support a competitive and secure future. Together with the Think Sustainable Europe network, the conference will provide a forum for evidence-based dialogue on some of the most pressing challenges facing the European Union. 

The conference is part of the Think2030 event series, a multi-stakeholder forum that provides science-based policy recommendations for a more sustainable Europe. This conference builds on previous editions co-organised with the Polish Presidency in Warsaw (March 2025), the Danish Presidency (September 2025) and the Cyprus Presidency in Brussels (April 2026). 

It will begin with opening remarks by a representative of the Irish government and a video message from Leena Ylä-Mononen, Executive Director of the European Environment Agency (EEA). It will then be followed by three panel discussions, with speakers including: Philip Nugent, Assistant Secretary for EU, International and Marine Affairs, Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment; Professor Jane Stout, Vice President for Biodiversity and Climate Action, Trinity College Dublin; Dr Eimear Cotter, Director General of the EPA; Dr Angelina Frankowska, Senior Analyst for agriculture and food systems, Sustainable Economy Institute (Instytut Zrównoważonej Gospodarki – IZG), Poland; and many more expert speakers drawn from industry, academia and policy.

As we shape this year’s festival, we are looking for stallholders and contributors who can bring the day to life — from local food and craft to biodiversity, climate action, agroecology, repair, reuse, creativity and community initiatives.

The Apple Festival is more than a market day. It is a gathering place for people and projects working towards healthier local food systems, stronger communities and a more sustainable future.
